Weekly Weigh-in #36

I had to smile when I typed in the title of this blog.  My Dad has always used the number 36 to exaggerate a point, so we call it his favorite number.  Things like “do we really need 36 jars of salsa?” when my Mom brought home a flat of them, or, “we’ve got 36,000 rolls of toilet paper already–why did you buy more?” which actually wasn’t much of an exaggeration. My Mom likes to buy in bulk, probably more than my Dad likes to use the number 36.

Anyway, this is supposed to be about my weigh-in, not my parents’ idiosyncrasies.  I think I was trying to put off this part.  Not because I gained, but because I didn’t make my goal of losing a pound.  I seriously considered fibbing and reporting a pound lost.  But if I started lying to you, what is even the point of me keeping this blog?  I’m no longer accountable if I’m reporting what I know you want to hear, and that doesn’t help me.  Besides, I hate lying and refuse to do it in most cases.  Reporting a failure is motivating, so here we go.  The truth.

Starting weight (5/20/09): 175
Last weigh in: 147
Today: 147
This week’s stickK.com goal: 149 ✔met!
Loss this week: -0 lbs
Total lost: -28 lbs

The good news is that I didn’t gain and since last week’s loss exceeded my goal, I’m still ahead of schedule to get to my goal weight by June 10th.  The bad news is that I didn’t lose anything, and I’m only two weeks nto my new commitment.

So what went wrong?  I looked back over my food journal and saw that on two days (the weekend), I went over my maximum calories for the day by several hundred and the remaining days I ate at the top end of my max calories (1500).  So this week I will be eating at the low end of my calories (1200) and will be careful on the weekend not to exceed that.  This will be a strict week because I want to see the difference it makes.  I kind of hope I lose big so that I know I can fall somewhere in the middle in order to lose 1 lb. a week because it’s hard for me to only eat 1,200 calories a day.  (waaaa–I’m such a whiner!)  Funny, since I didn’t find it very hard to stick to only 500 during the HCG drops experiment.  Probably helped that I didn’t have an appetite, though!

I have already started working out harder–doing my first run in a month on Tuesday and doing Tae Bo on Thursday.  Unfortunately, something went wrong with my knee on Tuesday and I could barely do what little bouncing there is in Tae Bo on Thursday.  This week I might have to break down and go to the gym to use the elliptical trainer, as that is very low-impact on the knees but still gives a good workout depending on the incline and resistance and how fast you go.  It’s actually my favorite exercise, but that may be because I usually don’t push myself too hard on it so I will have to make sure I work up a sweat.

Allrighty, that’s the plan, Stan.  God willing, I can do it!

Well, I’m glad you stayed true to yourself and posted the truth. Like you said, at least you didn’t gain! That’s funny about your Dad and the #36…lol! Sorry, to hear about your knee, I hope it heals up soon. Keep up the good work V!! You can do it :)

Any week you don’t gain is a good week , if you ask me. I bet you’ll make up for it next week in spades! It’s weird I have days when I seem to be starving and days when I don’t feel that hungry at all…

    • Veronica says:

Tis true. I think I will too! I seem to be starving 90% of the time but wonder if my candida has something to do with it.

  3. You can do it, that is for sure. Don’t forget to count your blessings though. At least you didn’t gain!

BTW, the video you linked to was incredible. I wish I could explain the Bible as well as that young man.

    • Veronica says:

I know, but this time was really disappointing b/c I was trying. Just not hard enough, I guess. I know, I loved that video.

  4. Make good food choices and 1200 isn’t too hard. I’ve been snacking a tiny bit which is stupid because then I just get less REAL food!

Another thing in common: My dad loves buying in bulk almost as much as his use of hyperbole. I’m the same way, though I think that I use 72 quite a bit. No idea why.

    • Veronica says:

It’s the snacks that kill me too. Some days my snacks equal more calories than my meals! He he, I think we must be distantly related. :)

I say congrats on maintaining after your big loss last week!
It’s just not as easy at your weight in some ways. Right now, I could eat 1800 calories and lose.
And I love the elliptical! Think of me and try to have fun. I’ve been using the built in interval training mode and it’s such a great workout.
    Here’s to a great week!

    • Veronica says:

Yeah, it gets harder to lose the more you lose, and that can be frustrating. My hubs, on the other hand, barely tries and loses 5 pounds in a week! I will be thinking of you this week. :)

  6. Faith says:

Oh no, I hope your knee feels better soon! And a huge congrats on no gain this week…you’re doing an amazing job, Veronica!

  7. biz319 says:

You didn’t gain, so that’s a bonus! Hope you had a great weekend!

  8. Thanks for visiting my blog! Yes, the cooking classes are fun and you get to bring the recipes home with you. :) Wish I could go more often!
